An introduction to the Gyopár pillow range

In this catalogue we would like to introduce you to a new, hygienic, and upto date instrument in patient care. Gyopár antidecubitus support pillows are a breakthrough in modern nursing care; they represent a major advance in hygiene and ensure a high degree of comfort. These pillows are washable, boilproof and align to the body perfectly. The small beads in the contents of the pillow form a moulding bed for the limbs and body, thus creating a larger surface area between the pillow and the patient. this decreases the pressure from any one part of the body, helping in the prevention of decubitus, while providing good support and cushioning comfort for the patent. Another quality in favour of the filling is that allergic symptoms are completely eliminated. This is due to the filling consisting of a blend of POLYSTIROL beads and extremely soft POLYURETHANE foam in studied, sophisticated proportions. This porous filling does not allow heat or moisture to build up because it has a natural air circulation, the tendency to become lumpy is also eliminated due the beads which stay separate from each other at all times. This lightens the nurses' workload by ensuring that ataxic patients stay in the required positions for longer periods of time without slipping or becoming hot and stuffy. They also considerably influence hospital economy rather advantageously in terms of prevention rather than treatment of ailments.

Who is GYOPÁR recommended for ?

- Post natal women. After giving birth to a child, one may find it rather painful to sit duwn; this is the reason for our designing the S3 'sitting ring'. It provides an intimate comfort which women need after giving birth.

- People with allergies. When a person is allergic to the filling in the pillow which he/she is sleeping on, he/she may be suffering from the folluwing symptoms, sure eyes, itching, sneezing, sleepless nights thus tiredness in the day. However the filling in the Gyopár pillow range does not combine with dust or bacteria and is made of a non-allergenic material, thereby eliminating the problem.

-Disabled people. People suffering from various disabilities and are confined to a wheelchair, need a cushion which provides them with comfort, but more importantly with stability, a cushion which allows for a strong fixed position to be held for as long as it is necessary. The filling in these cushions may be moulded into any position required and are guaranteed to remain there for as long as it is needed.

-In the event of paralysis or coma. Patients who are completely helpless require instruments to keep them in certain positions, which prevent them from suffocating. These pillows allow for just that. In these instances they also help the nursing staff who are there to look after them, due to their shapes, the pillows are designed to ease their work by fitting into all sorts of wedges which in turn makes the turning of these patients much easier. Because these patients stay in static positions for long periods of time it is necessary for the moisture to be rapidly dissipated thus for the patient to stay dry.

-For all those patients who are susceptible to decubitus. Decubitus is a serious problem for geriatrics. It is also a problem suffered by many post operative, paralytic or comatose patients.

Decubitus is also known as bed sore or pressure sore. It is a big problem, with a prevalence of 5 to 9% and more than 70% occurring in patients over 70 years of age. They are often falsely blamed on poor nursing care, but are infact a potentially preventable complication of acute immobility illness. Decubitus is an expensive problem costing hospitals a tremendous amount in extra staffing, drugs and dressings as well as hospital overheads.

There are three main stages of decubitus

 1. An alrpearance of redness on
the epidermis, which disappears if pressure is applied to it, however, once the pressure is released the redness reappears. The skin feels hot to the touch and the patient complains of a burning sensation.
At this stage decubitus is still relatively easy to prevent.

2. The epidermis becomes thinner and may be removed by the
slightest rubbing. At this stage
the patient complains of chronic
pain around the affected area.
The depth of the sore may still be prevented from increasing at this stage of
decubitus.

3. The appearance of the area becomes bluish, greenish and cold to the touch, the patient can no longer feel the affected area, which dies away hereafter. The area becomes dark brown or black and dries out. The body ejects this dead tissue and a deep wound is left in its place which usually becomes septic.

Looking after your GYOPAR pillow

All of the Gyopar range of products are washable and disinfectable (including their filling). This quality ensures easy use and total hygiene in hospital or home care. Their durability is proven by the fact that even after prolonged washes the filling retains it's original characteristics. To disinfect the pillows we recommend the following procedures:

WASHING:
There are no restrictions on thermal disinfecting, neither on chemothermic treatment. Wash at a maximum temperature of 94°c for a period of no more than 10 min. If stronger disinfection is required, use a chemical disinfectant before washing the product, and then wash at 30°c. Chlorine based cleaning products may damage the filling!

FABRIC SOFTENERS:
There are no advantages to be gained from the use of fabric softeners, on the contrary, softeners may cause the filling to become adhesive, making it lumpy.

BLOODSTAINS:
The method we recommend for the removal of bloodstains from the fabric is by ticking it easily with cold water. Subsequently, if required further treatment with an enzymatic agent may be carried out.

DRYING:
The pillow may be dried outdoors, or in the tumble drier. To retain their properties this procedure should be carried out at no more than 60° again for any more than a maximum of 10 minutes. Overheating may damage the filling. It is not advisable to have the pillows pressed or twisted in any way or form, for that too will damage the filling. It is advisable to puff up the pillow after each wash.

DURABILITY:
Gyopar pillows are very hardwearing, tolerating between 50 and 100 washes. However, they should be replaced as soon as it is necessary, to ensure the comfort of the patient.

If our product has inspired your interest, on request, we are available and would be obliged to present it to you personally.
